Air Lids

Designed by nendo

Another stunning collection of well designed, well-crafted objects from nendo. This time, nendo has partnered with Daikin to create a minimalist kitchenware collection called Air Lids. The reasoning behind this partnership has to the with the fact that all the amazing pieces within this collection include fluoroelastomer. Daikin is a producer of fluoroelastomer and worked with nendo to help create the unique shapes that nendo required. The high-performance rubber, used most commonly in the automotive industry, has an outstanding heat, oil and acid resistance which worked perfectly for nendo with the kitchen design he had in mind. The rubber also keeps its colour and shape over a long period of time. The silky touch and feel of the rubber also handed itself well to the necessary uses that nedo had in mind.

The collection includes a pick-up lid that you can use to pick up seasonings from the container, a press lid that opens like a mouth when pressed down, a pinch lid the conceals a small spoon that appears when pinched, the pull lid that is connected to the base of the bottle and is held at the mouth of the bottle under tension, and a push lid the extrudes liquid from the container when pushed down. "These lid designs aim to symbolize “something” between human and an object and to convey the abstract feeling of air to be a bit more tangible, which in reality we cannot really sense".
